YouTube Video Recording Process
- Plug in & Turn on all your gear
- Open the filming program:
- Phone:
- Camera App, or
- CapCut
- Computer - These can do both screenshare and camera recording:
- Descript, or
- OBS Studio, or
- Loom (I’d only use for screenshare)
- Adjust your settings
- Is the lighting right? Ring light on?
- Is the camera zoom correct and pointed in the right spot? Is the recording quality at least 1080P (High Definition)
- Is the microphone plugged in, moved near your face but just out of screen, and is the RIGHT mic selected? (ensure the selected mic is not your webcam, monitor, etc.)
- Open your script and put it as close to the camera as possible for ease and eye contact
- Sit up straight, take a deep breath, and smile!
- I find I record my best videos in the morning after a cup of coffee. 🙂 You’ll find your thing!
- Start recording & just leave everything on
- Even if you mess up, we will just cut that out. Redo that specific section and move on. I usually record for 20-30 minutes for a 10 minute video between pauses, scrolling my script, and repeating sections I can’t nail the first, second, or fourteenth time!
- Don’t waste time starting over or turning the camera off and on. Just knock it out!
And now you’re done and ready to edit!
P.S. - You can review the Winning YouTube Video Formula again. If you missed something, like your call to action or hook, record these now at the end and we can move the clips around in Descript.
