Video Editing Checklist
- [ ] Review the Winning YouTube Video Formula
- [ ] Remove Useless & Outtake Sections
- [ ] Remove Gaps, & Filler Words
- [ ] Eye Contact Tool (be sure to double check that it applied to the whole video)
- [ ] Studio Sound Tool (if needed: it has a tendency to cut off low volume words/sections - you won’t need this if you’re using a great microphone)
- [ ] Add Effects: Text, Animations, B Roll Images & Video, Zoom Effects, sound effects
- [ ] Add Intro & Outro Clips
- [ ] Export on Max Settings
P.S. - If you are like me and either don’t enjoy or are terrible at the fancy editing stuff, like animations, text, B roll, zoom effects, graphics, sound effects, etc., then hiring a professional is inexpensive and a really good reason to outsource the time and effort to someone who is better at this.
Hiring an Affordable Professional
From my experience hiring virtual assistants and editing professionals, the best way to do this is:
- Find videos that are similar in style and editing that you would like your videos to be
- Write a job description that contains:
- Qualifications (education, experience, English speaking level)
- Expectations (turn time, how many videos they need to be able to edit with revisions)
- Pay & Work Offered (what are you wiling to pay per hour or video & how much work will you give them?)
- Suggestion: this is a more technical task. Better editors charge more. You should expect to pay between $5-7 an hour or $25-30 per long form video for excellent editing.
- How much work you will give them is important: if you SAY you are going to give them 2-3 videos a week but you are inconsistent, they will want to fill that void with other work (they have to provide for their families too!) and be distracted. Commit.
- Example videos you like
- Ask them to submit samples of their work
- Come up with at least 5 questions for interviews
- Schedule VIDEO interviews to be back to back and take notes
- You’ll get a sense of whether you can communicate, whether you are on the same page, and whether they are willing to show up when you ask!
To find an editor that charges by the hour to work part or full time, I love hiring from OnlineJobs.ph. Some of my most favorite people and hardest working freelancers I know are virtual assistants I’ve hired from the Philippines through this portal.
